Suffern, N.Y. (October 16, 2005)- The Manhattan golf team placed third at the NYU Violet Classic, played over the weekend at the 6,807-yard, par 72 Spook Rock Golf Course. The Jaspers tallied a team score of 655 to place third behind team champion and host, NYU (592) and RPI (646).
George Calvi paced the Jaspers with a two-round score of 160.
Manhattan's first round team score of 324 was the team's best round since the 2004 fall season, helping the Jaspers easily outdistance Nassau Community College (661) and US Merchant Marine Academy (712) for third place.
NYU's Matthew Frame took home medalist honors after carding a two-round total of 146.
Calvi placed 10th overall to lead Manhattan, while
Sean Oroho (T-11th, 162),
Chris Vieau (14th, 167), James Marchewka (15th, 168), and
Scott Burton (17th, 172) rounded out the Jasper scorers.
AJ Balsinde and Adam Minbiole competed as individuals (teams must designate their five scoring golfers prior to teeing off), and put up two-round totals of 160 and 170, respectively.
Manhattan returns to the course on Tuesday, October 18, traveling to West Orange, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's at 2:00 p.m.
