BALANCED SCORING LEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL TO A 92-82 WIN OVER SAINT PETER'S

Riverdale, NY (January 17, 2005)- All five Manhattan starters scored in double-figures as the Jaspers posted a 92-82 win over the visiting Saint Peter's Peacocks tonight at Draddy Gym. The Jaspers improve to 8-6, 3-3 in MAAC play, while the Peacocks fall to 6-9, 1-5 in MAAC play. CJ Anderson nearly tallied his third straight double-double to lead Manhattan, falling a rebound short as he tallied team-highs of 21 points and nine rebounds.

Manhattan slowly built a lead over the game's first 10 minutes, as the Jaspers led, 24-14, with 11:38 left before the break. The Jaspers were able to extend the lead to as many as 12 on three occasions, and never let the lead dip below seven points until the Peacocks' George Jefferson connected on a three-pointer with four seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit to six, 43-37, at the break.

In the second half, the Jaspers immediately worked the lead back up to double-digits, taking an 11 point lead on a Jeff Xavier layup to make the score 51-40 with 17:05 to play. Manhattan pushed the lead to 14, 63-49, with 12:22 left before Saint Peter's used an 9-0 run to cut the lead to five, 63-58, with 10:52 to go on a Keydren Clark jumper. After the teams traded baskets, the Jaspers took command of the game, using a 14-5 run to push the lead back to 14, 79-65, with 5:25 to play, and never allowed the Peacocks to cut the lead to single digits the rest of the game.

Anderson added four assist, two blocks, and one steal with no turnovers to his near double-double, and was joined in double-figures by Peter Mulligan (17 points, six boards), Jason Wingate (career-high 16 points), Xavier (season-high 12 points, five steals, three rebounds, and three assists), and Arturo Dubois (11 points).

Clark led all scorers with 32 points, while Ron Yates (15 points, game-high 10 rebounds), Jefferson (12 points), and Ivan Bozovic (10 points) each reached double figures in scoring.

Manhattan begins a three-game road trip on Thursday, January 20, when the Jaspers take on Canisius at 7:00 p.m. before playing at Niagara on Saturday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. in a MAAC-TV game.
