Loudonville, NY (January 16, 2005)- Siena held Manhattan to 33.3% shooting from the field as the Saints handed the Lady Jaspers a 56-46 loss today at the Alumni Recreation Center. Senior
Serra Sangar led Manhattan with 14 points, while Lauren Surber led all scorers with 17 for Siena.
After taking a 6-2 lead, Manhattan (7-8, 3-3 MAAC) endured a 10 minute scoring drought, but only trailed 11-8 at the 7:02 mark. However, Siena (6-9, 3-3 MAAC) ended the half connecting on four straight three-pointers, and went into intermission with a 29-16 advantage.
While holding Siena to 33.3% shooting in the second half, the Lady Jaspers cut the deficit to nine points with 5:31 remaining, but Siena extended its advantage to double-digits before
Gabrielle Cottrell nailed a three-pointer to cut the Saints' lead to 54-46 with 34 seconds left in regulation. However, it was not enough as Siena captured a 56-46 victory.
The Lady Jaspers return to the court on Thursday, January 20, when they will continue their road trip with a matchup against Saint Peter's. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
