Donnette Reed chipped in with 12 points and eight assists to pace Manhattan, which improves to 3-2 in the MAAC with the victory.
Rider (4-10, 2-3 MAAC) led 33-29 at intermission, grabbing its largest lead at 46-39 on two free throws by Kara Borel at the 13:33 mark. Manhattan (7-7, 3-2 MAAC) subsequently chipped away at the lead, and eventually took a 48-47 lead on a three-pointer from freshman
Aubrie Dellinger. The lead changed hands several times down the stretch, but Manhattan ultimately took the lead for good on a jumper by Sangar with 5:31 remaining. After going scoreless on consecutive possessions, the Broncs, down three, had an opportunity for a transition basket, but Reed came out of nowhere to block the layup attempt, grabbed the ball and went coast to coast for a layup to give Manhattan a 63-58 advantage. Reed added another layup down the stretch, and Sangar hit two free throws to secure the win.
After registering 11 turnovers in the first half, the Lady Jaspers only committed a single turnover in the second half, proving critical to the comeback.
Katie Hall led Rider with 18 points, while Leanne Moore added 17, including her 1000th career point during the contest.
The Lady Jaspers return to action on Sunday, January 16, when they will travel to Loudonville, NY to take on Siena in the second game of their four-game road trip. Tip-off on Sunday is slated for 3:00 p.m.
