Schenectady, NY (March 27, 2004) - The Jaspers improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference with an 11-10 overtime win over MAAC rival Siena at Union College. With 2:15 remaining in overtime,
Greg Lewis received a pass from
Jeremy Marrano netting the game winner, giving Manhattan its third overtime victory this season. The Jaspers where led by four fourth period goals by freshman
Brian Murray. Murray recorded six points in the contest.
The Saints jumped to a quick lead in the beginning of the first period with two goals in less then eight minutes. The Jaspers responded with a
Jeremy Marrano goal, but the Saints countered with one more goal to end the period, with the lead, 3-1.
The Jaspers recorded three goals in the third period by Marrano,
Justin Otto and
Eugene Tanner, putting Manhattan within one going into the half, 4-5. The Saints added two goals in the second period to give them the 5-4 lead.
The Saints extended its lead with three goals in the first ten minutes of the second half giving them the 8-4 lead with 10:04 remaining. The Jaspers bounced back with five straight goals propelling them to their first lead of the game, 9-8 with 8:53 left. Matthew Walsh responded for the Saints with an unassisted goal evening the score at 9-9. Murray with 6:00 minutes remaining netted his fifth and final goal of the day giving the Jaspers the 10-9 edge. Walsh responded with his fourth goal of the game, tying the score at 10-10 and sending the game into overtime.
With 2:15 left to go in overtime,
Greg Lewis netted his only goal of the game, giving the Jaspers their fourth win of the season.
Eugene Tanner recorded four points on the day including one goal and three assists and Marrano added two goals and one assist.
Justin Otto tallied one goal and an assist and
Greg Lewis recorded one goal.
Goaltender
Robert Busweiler recorded eight saves in the victory.
The Jaspers are back in action when they host their first home game of the season against VMI next Saturday, April 3 at 2 pm.
