WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO NIAGARA, 65-49

Niagara University, NY - (February 8, 2004) - The Lady Jaspers led by as many as 16 points in the first half, but several Niagara runs helped the Purple Eagles grab the 65-49 victory over Manhattan. Manhattan falls to 8-13 overall and 4-8 in the conference. Senior Rosalee Mason tallied a game high 19 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Jaspers were ahead by as many as 16 in the first half, but the Purple Eagles went on an 11-0 run to end the half, pulling within three at 33-30. Jessi Tomasin led the way for Niagara during that run recording all but three of the points, totaling eight. The Lady Jaspers shot 48.1 percent from the field for the half, including four three pointers. Rosalee Mason tallied nine points and eight rebounds for Manhattan.

The Purple Eagles jumped out on a 7-2 run, taking the lead at the 17:29 mark, with the score of 37-35. With two free throws by Mason, the Lady Jaspers took the lead back at the 12:16 mark with the score 40-39. Niagara held Manhattan to just one field goal in over seven minutes of play, helping the Purple Eagles take a 16 point lead and the victory, with the score at 65-49.

Freshman Kristen Tracey added eight points and freshman Danielle Cooper tallied six points, three rebounds and four assists.

Niagara (14-7, 8-4) was led by Colleen Toetz who recorded 15 points and four assists, and Eva Cunningham who tallied 14 points.

The Lady Jaspers will be in action this coming Thursday, February 12, when they head to Poughkeepsie, NY to face MAAC foe Marist, at 7 pm.
