Baltimore, MD (February 4, 2004)- Manhattan improved to 16-4, 11-1 in MAAC play with a 91-54 win over Loyola at Reitz Arena tonight.
Luis Flores led all scorers with a season-high tying 32 points, his first ever 20+ outing against the Greyhounds.
Manhattan raced out to a 21-6 lead over the first 10:19.
Guy Ngarndi and
Justin Gatling, making his first collegiate start, got things off to a quick start for the Jaspers, as Ngarndi's putback and Gatling's three pointer made the score 5-0 with 18:51 left in the first half. The lead was stretched to 20, 34-14, Manhattan's largest of the half, with 4:56 remaining before the break before Loyola (1-20, 1-11) used a 12-4 run to closeout the half to head into intermission with the score 38-26 in favor of the Jaspers.
Manhattan scored the first eight points of the second half to extend the lead back to 20, 46-26, with 17:42 left in the game. The Jaspers posted their largest lead of the night, 37 points, after a
Darren Johnson three pointer made the score 91-54 with 20.8 seconds left in the game.
Peter Mulligan joined Flores in double figures with 18 points.
Kenny Minor also reached double digits with a career-high tying 10 points. Jamaal Dixon led Loyola with 17 points.
The Jaspers get back in action when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on the second-place Saint Peter's Peacocks at 3:00 on Sunday, February 8.
