MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO UW-MILWAUKEE, 88-78, IN OVERTIME

Riverdale, NY (December 30, 2004)- Wisconsin-Milwaukee used a 13-0 run to open overtime to defeat Manhattan, 88-78, tonight at Draddy Gym. Peter Mulligan led all scorers with 24 points as the Jaspers fell to 4-4 on the season. The Panthers improved to 7-3.

A Joah Tucker free throw with 1:52 remaining in regulation gave UW-Milwaukee a 63-60 lead before four straight Mike Konovelchick free throws gave the Jaspers a 64-63 lead with 57 seconds remaining. After Ed McCants pulled down his own miss with 43 ticks remaining, the Panthers worked for a final shot, and Chris Hill connected on a baseline jumper with six seconds remaining. Manhattan pushed the ball up the court and Jason Wingate was fouled in the act of shooting with 1.3 seconds left on the clock. Wingate made the first to knot the score at 65, but missed the second, sending the game into overtime, setting up the big opening run by UW-Milwaukee.

Manhattan led by as many as 12 in the first half after a Mulligan three with 5:34 remaining before the break made the score 25-13 in favor of the Jaspers. The Panthers cut the lead to six twice, but went into the locker room down eight, 29-21.

In the second half, an Arturo Dubois layup pushed the Manhattan lead back to 10, 31-21, with 19:25 left before UW-Milwaukee used a 15-5 run over the next seven minutes to bring themselves even at 36-36 with 12:47 left in the second stanza. The teams traded baskets over the next minute before the Jaspers scored three quick baskets to push the lead back to six, 46-40, with 10:30 left in regulation. The Panthers responded with a 9-2 run of their own to take a one point lead, 49-48, with 8:10 left, their first lead since the score was 2-0. UW-Milwaukee never led by more than four, before Manhattan made the late run to send the game into overtime.

CJ Anderson tallied 21 points to join Mulligan in double figures for Manhattan, while Konovelchick added nine points and a team-high eight boards. Boo Davis led four Panthers in double figures with a team-high 22. McCants added 21, while Hill tallied 17 and Tucker 11.

Manhattan goes back on the road to open the New Year, traveling to Wichita State to battle the Shockers on Monday, January 3. Tipoff is slated for 8:05 eastern.
