Riverdale, NY (December 17, 2004)- Despite a game-high 20 points from senior
Serra Sangar, the Lady Jaspers dropped their second consecutive decision tonight to Fresno State, 68-59, at Draddy Gymnasium. Of the 14 Bulldogs that played in the game, 12 players scored. Tierre Wilson led that balanced attack with 12 points. Manhattan sees its record slip to 4-3 (2-0 MAAC), while Fresno State improves to 7-1.
After a Sangar layup made the score 8-7 in favor of the Bulldogs with 12:03 remaining in the first half, Manhattan was held scoreless for over five minutes, until junior
Lupe Godinez put in a layup to make the score 19-9. The Lady Jaspers pulled within six at 25-19, but Fresno State went on a 9-2 run to close the half, capped by a halfcourt heave by Faith Probst that swished through the net as time expired in the first half, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 34-21.
Manhattan responded in the second half, pulling to within three points on two occasions in the second half. Freshman
Aubrie Dellinger, who finished with a career-high 14 points, hit two free throws to cut the Bulldog lead to 59-56 with 4:25 left to play. However, the Bulldogs held Manhattan without a field goal for the remainder of the game, and ultimately captured the victory.
Godinez joined Sangar and Dellinger in double-figures for Manhattan with 10 points, while Jasmine Plummer and Kendra Walker-Roche each chipped in with 11 for Fresno State.
The Bulldogs shot 8-16 from three-point range for the game, while Manhattan shot 2-12 from downtown.
The Lady Jaspers return to the court on Monday, December 20, for a matinee matchup against Miami-Ohio. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
