Riverdale, NY (November 3, 2004)- Marist came back from a 6-2 deficit in the fifth and deciding game to knock off Manhattan tonight at Draddy Gym in five games. Game scores were 30-23, 25-30, 30-24, 25-30, 16-14. Katie Lux had 45 digs for the Red Foxes, who had five players in double figures in digs. Likewise, Manhattan also had five players post double-digit dig efforts, led by 29 digs from Ashley Davis. Maggie Pfeifer had a match-high 24 kills for the Lady Jaspers, who fall to 1-5 in the MAAC.

The first game saw multiple ties and lead changes, as neither team could pull out to an early lead. Marist broke the score open at 22-17 and took their largest lead of the game at 29-22 behind five kills from Kim McEathron.

The Red Foxes took an early lead in the second game (12-9), but Manhattan ripped off five points in a row to take the lead for good at 14-12. Megan O'Dorisio had five kills without an error during the game, along with five digs during the stanza.

The third game was similar to the first game in that neither team could open up an early lead. However, with the score tied at 18, Marist scored three points in a row and eventually extended their lead to 25-19. The Lady Jaspers fought back to get within three at 27-24, but Marist scored three in a row again to claim the third game.

Manhattan jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the fourth game behind a string of serves from Lori Bambauer, who had four service aces for the match. Marist closed to within four late in the game at 28-24, but Manhattan would put away two of the next three points to send the match to a fifth and deciding game.

The teams switched sides in the fifth game with Manhattan ahead by a score of 8-5. After Marist promptly scored three straight to tie the game, Manhattan responded with three of its own to take an 11-8 lead. After a timeout, the Red Foxes went on a 5-1 run to take a 13-12 lead. Manhattan fought off match point at 14-13 on a Pfeifer kill, but Marist prevailed by taking the next two points to take the victory, 3-2.

Whitney Judkins posted a career high with 19 kills, while the 29 digs from Ashley Davis represented her career high.

Sally Hanson had 15 kills and three service aces to pace Marist's offense. The Red Foxes improve to 2-5 in the MAAC and 11-14 overall. Manhattan sees its overall record slip to 5-22.

Manhattan will return to the court on Sunday, November 7 against Siena in its final home match of the season. Co-captains Allison O'Neill and Helena Ward will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
