MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PLACED 15TH AND THE WOMEN FINISHED 25TH AT THE 2004 NCAA NORTHEAST REGIONALS

Riverdale, NY (November 13, 2004)- The men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 2004 NCAA Northeast Regionals this weekend at Van Cortlandt Park with Iona College. The men's team finished in 15th place out of 37 teams scoring 379 points, while the Lady Jaspers finished 25th out of 35 teams scoring 761 points. Junior Tyler Raymond was the first on the men's team to finish the 10K earning a time of 32:11.6 placing 38th out of 233 runners. The women's top finisher was freshman Eryka Perrault. Perrault placed 111th out of 219 runners running the 6K in 23:30.1.

The top three men's team in the competition were Providence, Iona and Columbia. Iona (56 points) finished five points behind Providence (51). The first athlete to cross the finish line was Cornell's Bruce Hyde after running the course in 30:36.1.

Providence, Columbia and Yale were the top three teams on the women's side. Providence (54 points) beat Columbia (67) by 13 points. Yale was then 30 points behind Columbia earning a total of 67 points. Providence's Kim Smith was the first woman to cross the finish line (20:08.8).

Juniors Todd Raymond and Matt Reilly were the next Jaspers to cross the finish line after Tyler Raymond. Todd Raymond finished in 46th place running the course in 32:23.6 and Reilly finished less then 20 seconds later (32:52.3) earning 72nd place. Freshman Mike Foley finished four seconds (32:56.7) after Reilly placing 76th at his first NCAA Northeast Regional competition. The last three Jaspers to finish the race were sophomore Anthony Vernaci (34:28.7), senior Doug Becht (34:30.5), and junior Ryan Whalen (34:50.2).

On the women's side, senior Julie Lamiquiz was second on the Lady Jaspers to complete the course in 24:09.2 for a 156th place finish. Senior Rachel McGee (24:10.4), junior Ginine Lucarello (24:27.5), senior Caryn Capalbo (25:01.0) and junior Marissa Olivieri (25:44.7) also competed today for Manhattan.

The Jaspers will conclude their season on Saturday, November 20 when the compete at the IC4A and ECAC's that are being held at Van Cortlandt Park at 11:00 a.m.
