Orlando, FL (October 30, 2004)- The men's and women's cross country teams competed this weekend at the MAAC Championships held in Orlando, FL at the Wide World of Sports Complex. The men's team finished second in the competition earning only 57 points and the women grabbed fourth place with 112 points. Junior Tyler Raymond (Scotia, NY) was the top finisher for the men's team coming in at 25:38.80 for an eighth place finish and freshman Eryka Perreault (Troy, NY) was the top Lady Jasper finishing in a time of 22:32.84.
On the men's side, the Iona Gaels took first place receiving only 15 points as the team picked up the top seven spots. The top finisher of the race was Richard Kiplagat from Iona who finished the race in 24:19.39. The Marist Red Foxes won the women's race finishing with 40 points. Iona then followed with 65 points and in third place was Loyola with 80 points. The women's top finisher was Iona's Emily Chelanga.
The second Manhattan men's runner to cross over the finish line was Junior Todd Raymond (Scotia, NY) who finished in 12th place (25:58.99). Senior Matt Reilly (Burnt Hills, NY) finished 14th finishing in a time of 26:05.54 and freshman Mike Foley (Ballston Spa, NY) finished in 26:09.07 for a 15th place finish. Freshman Juan Caceras (Brooklyn, NY) was not far behind finishing two runners behind Foley with a time of 26:11.36.
Senior Julie Lamiquiz (Staten Island, NY) was the second Lady Jasper to cross the finish line in a time of 23:07.68. Finishing 17 seconds later was sophomore Ginine Lucarello (Mastic Beach, NY) and right behind her was senior Rachel McGee in a time of 23:37.63. Junior Caryn Capalbo (Exter, NH) placed 32nd crossing the finish line in 23:57.56.
The Jaspers compete again on Saturday, November 13 at Van Cortlandt Park in the NCAA Regionals at 10 a.m.
