WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS MARIST, 56-42

Riverdale, NY (January 9, 2004) - The Lady Jaspers downed Marist by a score of 56-42, giving them their third straight victory, and improving their record to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC. Senior Rosalee Mason led the way for the Lady Jaspers with a game high 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Manhattan jumped out in the first half on a 8-0 run, capped by a Donnette Reed jumper. The Lady Jaspers led by as many as 12 in the first half, a lead that soon ended as Marist sparked an 11-2 run to come within one at 17-16. Manhattan held the Red Foxes to just one field goal in the last six minutes of the half, and ended the half with the score of 23-18.

Manhattan extended their five point lead early in the second half, with a 7-2 run making the score 27-20. The Lady Jaspers ended the game connecting on six straight free throws, making the score 56-42 at the end of regulation.

Junior Serra Sangar joined Mason in double figures with 15 points, adding three rebounds and three steals. Junior Donnette Reed chipped in with nine points, five assists and four steals. Manhattan held Marist to just 42 points, making that the lowest score the Red Foxes have put up this season.

Stephanie Del Preore led the Red Foxes (6-6, 2-1 MAAC) with 11 points and nine rebounds. Nina Vecchio added 12 points and three assists in the loss.

The Lady Jaspers will end the week when they head to New Rochelle, NY to face Iona on Sunday at 2 pm.
