Fairfield, CT (January 31, 2004)- Despite coming up on the short end of a 141-96 final score, the swim team had a record breaking day when the Lady Jaspers took on MAAC foe Fairfield. Five school records were set or tied on the day, and freshman
Courtney Arduini was a double winner, touching first in the 400 IM and the 200 back.
"This was my most satisfying meet as a college head coach," stated head coach
Walter Olsewski. "The intensity and drive exhibited by our ladies was fantastic. The five school records tied or broken attest to the huge improvement our program has made since 1997."
The meet was contested in a 25 meter pool, so all times had to be converted to yards for record purposes.
Sarah Szotak won the 50 meter free with a time of 29.57, which converts to a school record tying 26.49. Arduini won the 400 IM in a time of 5:29.03, which converts to a school record 4:54.81, also also won the 200 back in a time of 2:37.47, which converts to a school record 2:21.09.
Rachel Testa set a school record in the 200 breast stroke, placing second in a time of 3:12.52, which converts to 2:52.49. The 200 medley relay team of Szotak, Arduini,
Bethany Karbowski, and Testa also set a school record.
The swim team returns to action on Saturday, February 7, when the Lady Jaspers travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on Saint Peter's at 7:00 p.m.
