Riverdale, NY (January 16, 2004) - With three players scoring over fifteen points, the Saints of Siena downed Manhattan by a score of 70-58. The Lady Jaspers drop their first of six straight home games and fall to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAAC. Manhattan also had three scorers in double figures, with senior
Rosalee Mason leading the way with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds.
In the first half the Lady Jaspers jumped out to a quick 10-2 run, capped a Mason layup. Siena marched back with a 9-2 run to pull ahead of Manhattan 21-20, with 4:25 left to go in the half. Mason tied up the game with a jumper, making the score 29-29. But with two layups at the end of the half, Siena would go into the half with a 33-29 lead.
Siena would hold onto the lead for the entire second half, as the Saints were led by Liene Janson who tallied 12 second half points, recording 19 for the game. Siena ended the game on a 9-2 run, capturing their fifth conference win of the season.
Joining Mason in double figures for the Lady Jaspers were junior
Serra Sangar who knocked down 10 points and four rebounds, and junior
Donnette Reed who knocked down 10 points and seven assists.
The Lady Jaspers will finish out the week on Sunday at 1 pm, playing the first game of the Fairfield Doubleheader with the men's game to follow at 4 pm.
