Newark, NJ (November 15, 2003)- The Manhattan College swimming team won both ends of Saturday's double-dual meet at Fleisher Pool on the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus, defeating Hunter College 51-41, and the host school 49-45. The wins stretched the Lady Jaspers' win streak to five consecutive meets.
Sarah Szotak and
Courtney Arduini both set school records.
Manhattan won nine of 11 events on the day. The Lady Jaspers jumped out to leads of 43-9 against Hunter, and 45-7 versus NJIT before swimming four of the final five events on an exhibition basis against both schools.
Szotak broke her own school record in the 50 free, touching in with a time of 26.50, .04 faster than her time from November 1 against Sacred Heart. Arduni smashed the school record in the 200 IM, placing first in a time of 2:19.08, over ten seconds faster than the previous record of 2:29.54, set in 1995 by Danielle Gelsomino.
Arduini also won the 100 breast in a time of 1:12.05 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay squad of
Marisa Lowe, Arduini,
Bethany Karbowski, and Szotak, which touched in with a time of 2:03.53. Szotak also won the 100 fly.
Heather Kennedy also won multiple events, placing first in the 200 free with a time of 2:15.54, and teaming up with
Kim DelGrosso,
Lauren Sullivan, and Karbowski to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:55.40.
