Riverdale, NY (October 31, 2003)- The Manhattan men's cross country placed third, while the women's team placed in a tie for fourth at the MAAC Cross Country Championships, held today at Van Cortlandt Park. Tyler Raymond paced the men, placing fourth, while Therese Forsberg paced the women with a third place finish.
Iona College won the men's race with 17 points, taking the top three spots, as well as fifth through eighth places. Nigel Wray was the individual winner, finishing the 8000m race in 24:47.1. Raymond finished just under a minute back, at 25:44.7. The Jaspers finished with 80 points.
Other finishers for the men's team were Matt Reilly (11th, 26:23.5), Douglas Becht (28th, 27:38.8), Josh Conklin (32nd, 27:54.6), Brendan Smith (34th, 27:57.3), Anthony Vernaci (38th, 28:07.8), Chris Breslin (41st, 28:10.7), Joseph Van Dyke (44th, 28:16), Kerry O'Brien (45th, 28:17.2), Jonathon Shaw (47th, 28:23.5), Doug DeMarco (48th, 28:25.2), Greg Lipari (61st, 29:09.6), Ryan Whalen (64th, 29:20.1), and George P. Roach (78th, 30:06.8).
Loyola College took the women's title with 46 points, placing three runners in the top ten. Iona's Emmily Chelanga was the individual champion, completing the 5000m race in 21:26.8. Forsberg finished the course in 22:47.8. The Lady Jaspers finished with 102 points.
Other Manhattan finishers were Marisa Rego (15th, 23:46.6), Michelle Jones (23rd, 24:13.5), Ginine Lucarello (29th, 24:41.5), Lisa Naucler (32nd, 24:50.6), Linn Modin (34th, 24:55.7), Rachael McGee (39th, 25:02.8), Caryn Capalbo (41st, 25:12.3), Sarah Mollard (52nd, 25:43.5), Samantha Sabatos (67th, 26:45.7), Cassandra Dunn (69th, 26:47.1), Marissa Olivieri (78th, 27:31.1), and Charity Staab (89th, 28:20.3).
