Riverdale, NY (October 3, 2003)- The Manhattan women's soccer team shutout Fairfield University, 2-0, today in its MAAC first conference match of the 2003 season. The Lady Jaspers earned their first win of the season, improving their record 1-8-0, 1-0-0 MAAC.

Senior Lindsay Bernstein (Stormville, NY) opened the scoring for the Lady Jaspers at the 12:36 mark when she received a pass from teammate Brandy Luther (Pueblo, CO) and shot it to the lower corner, giving the Lady Jaspers a 1-0 lead. Jess Garcia (Pueblo, CO) scored less than two minutes later when she took off on a breakaway and touched it past Stag goalkeeper Katie Ely.

Manhattan goalkeeper Jeanne Marie Gilbert (Northport, NY) recorded her first shutout of the season with five saves. Ely also registered five saves for the game.

The Lady Jaspers play their next conference game on Sunday, October 5th when they play Iona College at 10:00am at Gaelic Park.
