Metropolitan Championship Results

Riverdale, NY (October 3, 2003)- The men's and women's cross country teams each placed third at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships, held today at Van Cortlandt Park. Tyler Raymond was the top Jasper male, placing third and finishing the five-mile course in a personal best time of 25:18. Therese Forsberg was the top Jasper female, placing fourth with a time of 18:22 for the 3.1-mile course. Forsberg's time was the fourth fastest by a Manhattan runner on the Van Cortlandt Park course.

Iona was the winner of the men's race, taking three of the top four spots and scoring a team total of 28 points, easily outdistancing fellow MAAC schools Marist (101) and Manhattan (113).

Columbia placed first in the women's race, placing all five runners in the top-11 and scoring 39 points. Rutgers plcaed second with 68 point. Manhattan (113 points) edged out MAAC rival Iona (119 points) for third place.

Matt Riley also PRed for the Jaspers, placing seventh with a time of 25:56. Douglas Becht (28th-26:53), Greg Lipari (38th-27:10), and Joshua Conklin (39th-27:15) rounded out the scoring five for Manhattan.

For the women, Lisa Naucler set a personal best, placing 20th with a time of 19:30. Marisa Rego (26th-19:38), Michelle Jones (30th-19:41), and Nicholle Davis (33rd-20:03) were the scoring five for the Lady Jaspers.

Other male finishers for the Jaspers were Brendan Smith (50th-27:41), Joseph Van Dyke (54th-27:51), Anthony Vernaci (60th-27:59), Chris Breslin (77th-28:39), Jonathan Shaw (82nd-28:54), Doug DeMarco (85th-28:57), and Ryan Whalen (93rd-29:08).

Other female finishers for Manhattan were Ginine Lucarello (48th-20:20), Caryn Capalbo (61st-20:43), Sarah Mollard (67th-21:05), Marissa Olivieri (68th-21:07.57), and Samantha Sabatos (84th-21:38).

The Cross Country teams are back in action on Friday, October 17, when the teams compete in the Manhattan/Iona Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park at 3:00 p.m.
