VOLLEYBALL TAKES SYRACUSE IN FIVE GAMES

Riverdale, NY - (October 24, 2003) The Lady Jaspers knocked off Big East member Syracuse (15-10, 3-3) in five games, extending Manhattan's winning streak to ten straight matches. With the win the Lady Jaspers improve to 12-10 overall. Senior tri-captain Luka Van Cauteren led the way for Manhattan notching a triple-double with 32 kills, 36 assists and 15 digs and an outstanding .411 hitting percentage.

In the first game Manhattan trailed the entire game until Van Cauteren's kill gave the Lady Jaspers the lead by a score of 29-28. The Lady Jaspers finished the game with a service ace by Van Cauteren. In the second game, the game went back and forth but Manhattan pulled out the win, 35-33. The third game was dominated by Syracuse, who did not trail the entire game, winning 30-25. With an 11-2 run towards the end of the fourth game, Syracuse cruised to their second victory of the match, 30-22. In the fifth and deciding game, the Lady Jaspers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and did not let Syracuse get closer than 2, taking the fifth game, 15-10.

Senior tri-captain Krista Thorsen added 10 kills, 4 service aces, and 15 digs. Sophomore Maggie Pfiefer tallied 15 kills with a .367 hitting percentage, and sophomore Megan O'Dorisio added 10 kills and 6 digs in the win.

Leading the way for the Orangewomen were Kelly Daun with 18 kills, 18 digs and a .333 hitting percentage, and Kristen Conway who tallied 19 kills, 13 digs with a .298 hitting percentage.

The Lady Jaspers head back into action on Monday when they host MAAC foe Fairfield at 7:00 p.m. in Draddy Gym.
