Kevin Martin scored just 2:30 into the game, and the Jaspers added an insurance goal late in the game, shutting out MAAC foe Rider, 2-0, today at Gaelic Park. Freshman goalkeeper
Collin Leaver made five saves in recording his second shutout of the season as Manhattan improves to 3-9-1, 2-2-1 MAAC, while Rider falls to 0-13-1, 0-5-1 MAAC.
Off a restart, senior
Robert Tedesco served the ball to Martin, who headed the ball past Broncs senior goalkeeper Brian Gill to give Manhattan the early lead. The Jaspers out shot Rider 6-5 in the opening half, in a game that was played in a fairly steady rain.
Rider picked up the offensive pressure in the second half, out shooting Manhattan 14-2, but could not solve Leaver, who made several acrobatic saves to keep the Broncs off the scoreboard. The Jaspers added an insurance goal at the 80:27 mark, when, again off a restart, Tedesco found the foot of freshman
Brian Lundy, who one-touched the ball to the back of the net.
Gill made three saves for Rider, who had a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks, and a 19-8 advantage in shots.
Manhattan returns to action on Friday October 24, when the Jaspers travel to Buffalo, NY to take on MAAC foe Canisius. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
